A to Z of Food Storage

Tomato

Best Storage:

Cool area

Tomatoes are most flavoursome and have a better texture when stored on a cool bench, however you need to be able to eat them in time! To halt ripening, put them into the fridge - place on a teatowel on a top shelf closer to the door which is a warmer section of your fridge, and check regularly that they are not getting mouldy. Bring to room temperature before eating. Use a silicone food saver over cut ends or put cut tomatoes in an airtight container and use asap.

Freezer?

Yes - cooked

Tomatoes can be frozen whole or in sections. Once frozen, place them in an airtight container or re-useable zip lock bag and into the freezer. Once defrosted, tomatoes will be mushy, so use them in soups, sauces, casseroles and cooked meals.
