Despite common myths and fancy green packaging, most cannot be recycled or composted. They end up in landfill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In landfill, they don<\/span>\u2019<span>t break down in a helpful way for our soil. Research continues to highlight concerns around:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span>Microplastics<\/span><\/strong><span> shedding from single-use coffee cups<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span>PFAS (\u2018forever chemicals\u2019)<\/span><\/strong><span> commonly found in some takeaway food packaging, such as clamshell containers<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NSW Health has advised avoiding products containing PFAS \u2014 yet for consumers, it\u2019s often impossible to know which single-use items do or do not contain them.
